The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos State has commended the smooth conduct of the local government elections held on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
According to the State Commandant, Mr. Keshinro Adedotun, the election has been “very serene, smooth, and well-organized”.
The Commandant attributed the success of the election to the cooperation of voters, who he said conducted themselves in a manner that ensured peace and order throughout the process.
“So far, so good, the election has been very serene, smooth, and well-organized, owing to how the people have conducted themselves,” he stated.
The NSCDC had deployed Strategic Monitoring Teams to ensure adequate monitoring of the election, in addition to a large team of officers deployed across all wards and polling units.
This move underscores the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the election. With over 7 million registered voters participating in the election, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had earlier assured residents of a hitch-free exercise.
The commission’s chairman, Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, expressed confidence in the commission’s preparedness, stating, “We are ready. We have worked hard.
Now, we urge Lagosians to come out and vote peacefully”.The election saw the participation of 15 political parties, with voters electing chairmen and councillors across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The successful conduct of the election is a testament to the effectiveness of the security measures put in place by the NSCDC and other security agencies.
