President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday departed Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Türkiye.
The visit is aimed at strengthening existing ties and expanding cooperation in critical sectors, including security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
The President’s departure was disclosed by his Special Adviser on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on X, accompanied by a video showing Tinubu at the airport ahead of the trip.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departs Abuja today for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye. The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” Olusegun wrote.
President Tinubu was accompanied by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, and other senior government officials.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the trip in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Onanuga, the visit is also in reciprocation of the state visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Nigeria in October 2021.
“The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” Onanuga said.
He added that the visit would feature strategic political and diplomatic engagements, with discussions centred on shared interests in finance, communications, trade and investment.
