The Police Command in Lagos State said it has rescued a 28-year-old robbery suspect from an angry mob.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to journalists on Monday in Lagos.
He said officers on patrol responded to a distress call and intervened at Matana in the Suru-Alaba area.
The suspect was reportedly rescued from mob action following the alert.
Hundeyin stated that the suspect and his gang had robbed a man and then snatched a phone from a woman.Both victims later identified the suspect as one of the assailants.
An unregistered motorcycle allegedly used in the robbery was recovered at the scene.
The suspect confessed to the crime and is helping police locate his accomplices.
Hundeyin disclosed that investigations into the case are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the command also arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly burgling a flat and raping a 47-year-old woman.

He said it occurred around 3:00 a.m. on March 26 in the Ikotun area of the state.
According to Hundeyin, the victim reported the matter at the Ikotun Police Division.
She alleged the suspect broke into her room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Her cries reportedly drew the attention of a neighbour who came to her aid.The suspect allegedly attacked the neighbour with a sharp object, injuring his forehead.
A patrol team was promptly deployed to the scene and arrested the suspect.
Both the victim and injured neighbour were taken to hospital for treatment.
The police spokesperson said an investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.”
