The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has initiated fresh measures to boost internally generated revenue following a strategic meeting with revenue officers in the council.
The high-level session, held on Wednesday at the council secretariat, brought together key revenue-generating personnel to review current performance, identify existing challenges, and chart a sustainable path toward improved revenue inflow.
Presiding over the meeting, AKOD underscored the critical role of internally generated revenue (IGR) in driving grassroots development, stressing that the council must adopt more efficient and transparent mechanisms to meet its financial targets.
“This administration is committed to strengthening the revenue base of Ikeja Local Government through deliberate, transparent and accountable processes that will enhance service delivery to our people,” Olalekan Oni, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, quoted AKOD as saying.
The Chairman expressed concern over revenue leakages and inefficiencies, directing officers to take proactive steps in blocking loopholes and ensuring that all collections are properly accounted for.
“We must close all leakages and ensure that every kobo due to the local government is collected and remitted appropriately. There will be zero tolerance for sharp practices,” Oni quoted him as saying.
Dauda further emphasised the need for strict adherence to due process, urging revenue personnel to operate within the ambit of the law while discharging their duties.
“Our operations must be guided by integrity, professionalism and compliance with established regulations. This is the only way we can build public trust and achieve sustainable growth,” he added.
In their response, the revenue officers assured the Chairman of their readiness to align with the administration’s vision, pledging improved performance and renewed commitment to duty.
“We are fully committed to improving our output and ensuring that our activities reflect the highest standards of accountability and legality,” Oni quoted the officers as assuring.
The meeting also had in attendance top management staff of the council, including the Council Manager, Mrs. Taiwo Odubeko; the Council Treasurer; the Director of Legal Services; Area Officers; and Heads of Departments.
The engagement is part of ongoing efforts by the Ikeja Local Government leadership to reposition its financial system, strengthen institutional capacity, and ensure that increased revenue translates into better infrastructure and service delivery for residents.
“This is a collective responsibility, and we are confident that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, Ikeja will witness improved revenue performance and accelerated development,” Oni further quoted the Chairman as saying.
