The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of comic actor Bamidele Tope Saint, popularly known by his stage name Okemesi.

Okemesi reportedly died on Tuesday at about 11:50 a.m. after a brief period in a coma at a hospital, according to colleagues and family sources.

Preliminary reports indicated that the actor developed complications after drugs were administered to him, which subsequently led to his loss of consciousness. He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The death was confirmed by fellow actor Tony Montana Jeff, who announced the development in a video shared on Instagram, saying the late actor’s remains had been deposited at a mortuary.

“With a heavy heart, I’m announcing to the world that Okemesi is dead. The doctor pronounced him dead at exactly 11:50 a.m. this morning, February 24, 2026. Okemesi is gone,” Jeff said.

He further disclosed that the family had taken custody of the body and would communicate burial arrangements in due course.

“On behalf of the entire Bamidele family, I’m announcing to the world that Oluwatope Bamidele Saint Okemesi is dead. We have taken the body to the morgue, and we will communicate the rest of the arrangements. We appreciate everyone who stood by him. May God forgive him and rest his soul,” he added.

Okemesi was known for his comic roles and energetic performances in Nollywood productions, earning him a growing fan base among audiences and peers.

Colleagues and fans have begun paying tribute to the late actor across social media platforms, describing him as a talented entertainer whose humour and creativity brought joy to many.

Further details surrounding his death and funeral arrangements are expected to be released by the family in the coming days.
