The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of registration for its Graduate Internship Placement Programme (GIPP), offering fresh graduates the opportunity to gain practical work experience while receiving mentorship and professional training.

The initiative, fully funded by the state government, is designed to help young graduates bridge the gap between academic knowledge and workplace requirements by providing them with hands-on experience in their chosen fields.

In a statement shared on its official X platform on Friday, the state government said the programme forms part of its broader strategy to enhance youth employability and reduce graduate unemployment.

“The Graduate Internship Placement Programme is designed to equip fresh graduates with practical experience, ongoing mentorship, and the skills that employers value,” the government stated.

According to the announcement, successful participants will benefit from a structured internship experience that includes a government-funded stipend, career mentorship, and training in critical soft skills and professional etiquette.

“Fresh Graduate? This is your sign to take action,” the statement read.

“The Lagos State Graduate Internship Placement Program registration is now open. Get hands-on experience in your field, earn a stipend fully funded by Lagos State, build soft skills and business etiquette that employers actually want, and enjoy ongoing mentorship and support throughout your journey.”

The government added that the internship programme is open exclusively to new applicants, urging interested graduates to apply before the closing date.

“Registration closes on April 10, 2026, and it is open to new applicants only,” the post stated.

Officials explained that beyond providing workplace exposure, the programme is structured to help graduates develop essential professional competencies that will position them for long-term career success.

“We want graduates to leave this program with more than just a certificate. They should gain practical knowledge, improved soft skills, and experience to succeed in any professional environment,” the statement added.

The initiative is widely regarded as one of the state government’s strategic interventions aimed at nurturing a pool of skilled, workplace-ready professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to the state’s economic growth.

Prospective applicants were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity, as the programme offers structured career development support, mentorship, and practical training designed to strengthen the employability prospects of young graduates in an increasingly competitive labour market.
