Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday received the new Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, at the Lagos House, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state.
The visit marked CP Tijani’s first formal engagement with the governor since assuming office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in Lagos.
He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan.
Welcoming the new police chief, Sanwo-Olu commended his professional track record and assured him of the state government’s continued support for security agencies.
“We are confident in your capacity to build on the existing security framework and further strengthen policing in Lagos,” the governor said.
“Our administration remains committed to supporting the Police and other security agencies through strategic investments, innovation and strong institutional partnerships.”
Sanwo-Olu added that Lagos would continue to prioritise public safety as a critical enabler of economic growth and social stability.
“Security is fundamental to our vision of a safe, resilient and investment-friendly megacity. We will sustain our collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure Lagos remains secure for residents and investors alike,” he stated.
In his remarks, CP Tijani reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the state’s security architecture through modern and inclusive policing strategies.
“My approach will be anchored on intelligence-led policing, robust community engagement and the deployment of technology to address emerging security challenges,” he said.
He stressed the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable security outcomes.“Effective policing requires synergy between the government, the Police, the private sector and the citizens. We will continue to strengthen these partnerships to maintain law and order across Lagos State,” Tijani added.
Also speaking, Dr. Ogunsan underscored the role of the LSSTF in supporting security operations, expressing confidence in the new police leadership.
“The Trust Fund will continue to provide the necessary support to enhance operational capacity. We are confident that with sustained collaboration, we will translate strategic plans into measurable security outcomes,” he said.
The meeting underscored renewed alignment between the Lagos State Government and the Police Command, with both parties pledging closer coordination in addressing evolving security challenges.
