The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged senior police officers to translate the resolutions of the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) into practical action as the Force prepares for the 2027 General Elections.
Disu gave the charge on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of the three-day CARSPO 2026 in Owerri, Imo State, stressing that the true measure of the conference would be the changes recorded across Police Commands and Formations after participants return to their respective areas of responsibility.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP directed participating officers to adopt a train-the-trainers approach by cascading the lessons and resolutions of the conference to Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders and other personnel under their supervision.
He urged the senior officers to strengthen operational planning, intelligence gathering, personnel training and community engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
Disu also reiterated that the loyalty of the Nigeria Police Force remained with the Constitution, the law and the Nigerian people, rather than any political party, candidate or interest group.
He charged the officers to lead by example and ensure that professionalism, impartiality, discipline, integrity, respect for citizens’ rights and accountability remained central to policing.
The IGP further highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence, digital intelligence and data-driven policing in modern law enforcement. He also stressed the need for professional media engagement, timely and accurate communication, and sustained partnerships with communities.
The conference adopted resolutions for a comprehensive Nigeria Police Election Security Roadmap anchored on intelligence, political neutrality, professionalism, technology, community partnership, accountability and inter-agency collaboration.
The roadmap also provides for early warning mechanisms, improved operational coordination, personnel preparedness and effective responses to election-related threats.
The closing ceremony was attended by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma; President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN; the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission; members of the Imo State Executive Council; senior police officers and other invited stakeholders.
Disu expressed appreciation to the Imo State Government and people for their hospitality, as well as Lenders Consult Nigeria Limited, facilitators, lecturers and participants for their contributions to the conference.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to translating the outcomes of CARSPO 2026 into improved election preparedness, stronger supervision, intelligence-led and technology-enabled policing, enhanced community engagement and professional conduct across its Commands and Formations.
