Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring public trust and deepen professionalism in policing nationwide.
    ‎
‎The police chief made the pledge on Saturday during a state banquet held in his honour at the Lagos State House, Marina, following his appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd
‎ Inspector-General of Police of Nigeria.
    ‎
‎The event, hosted by the Lagos State Government and led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, brought together top government officials, security stakeholders and members of the public to celebrate the new police boss.
    ‎
‎Speaking at the event, Disu described the honour as a homecoming and expressed appreciation to the government and people of Lagos State for the recognition.
    ‎
‎“This honour holds deep personal significance for me. Lagos is not just a place of service but a home that shaped my career and values in policing,” he said.
    ‎
‎He reiterated his resolve to reposition the Nigeria Police Force, noting that professionalism and accountability would remain central to his leadership.
    ‎
‎“We are committed to restoring public trust through professionalism, transparency and adherence to the rule of law. Policing must reflect integrity, discipline and respect for the rights of all citizens,” he stated.
    ‎
‎The IGP also stressed the importance of community engagement, saying effective policing cannot be achieved without the cooperation of the public.
    ‎
‎“Security is a shared responsibility. We will continue to strengthen partnerships with communities, the private sector and civil society to ensure a safer Nigeria,” he added.
    ‎
‎Disu further pledged to deepen collaboration with key institutions, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to enhance operational efficiency and sustain security gains.
    ‎
‎Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, described the IGP as a distinguished officer whose career reflects dedication and excellence, particularly during his tenure in Lagos.
    ‎
‎“IGP Disu is a proud product of Lagos, whose service record exemplifies discipline, courage and commitment to duty. This honour is a recognition of his outstanding contributions to security and public service,” the governor said.
    ‎
‎According to a statement by DCP
‎Anthony Placid, Force Public Relations Officer,, the banquet underscored the strong relationship between Lagos State and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
    ‎
‎“The event reflects a shared commitment to strengthening security architecture, promoting professional policing and advancing national development,” the statement read.
    ‎
‎The Force spokesperson noted that the IGP remains focused on reforms aimed at building a more responsive, accountable and citizen-focused police institution.
