The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed three senior police officers and demoted 16 others over established cases of misconduct, as part of disciplinary action against 42 officers.
The commission also issued severe reprimands to 21 officers and ordinary reprimands to two others, while three officers were exonerated. Some officers who had previously been suspended were also reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement on Wednesday, the commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, said the disciplinary decisions followed the consideration of cases involving serious misconduct and conduct unbecoming of police officers.
Kalu said the decisions were reached at the Commission’s plenary meeting, presided over by its Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
He said the Commission maintained a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of misconduct within the Force.
According to Kalu, Argungu assured the public that the Commission would continue to ensure the speedy handling of disciplinary cases brought before it.
