The Lagos State Government has launched a strict enforcement operation to impound articulated vehicles violating the long-standing restriction on the Third Mainland Bridge.
Over 10 heavy-duty trucks have already been seized in the initial sweep conducted by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), as part of efforts to protect public safety and preserve critical infrastructure.
Speaking on the development, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, said articulated vehicles above 9 tonnes are prohibited from using the bridge due to its structural sensitivity.
“This restriction is clearly established in law, and enforcement has now fully commenced. Any violator will be sanctioned without exception,” he stated.
To strengthen the operation, LASTMA has deployed cutting-edge surveillance tools, including high-definition enforcement cameras to monitor compliance in real time.
Giwa emphasized that this initiative is not punitive but aimed at preventing accidents, easing traffic congestion, and prolonging the lifespan of the bridge.
Truck owners, fleet operators, and logistics stakeholders have been strongly advised to adhere strictly to the approved traffic routes. “The era of indulgence is over,”
Giwa warned. “Ignorance is no longer an excuse—defaulters will face the full weight of the law.” This move is part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES+ agenda to improve traffic management and transportation in Lagos.
