In a remarkable display of efficiency and bravery, operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ejigbo Station, successfully rescued a man who had fallen into an 80-foot-deep well in Ikotun, Lagos.
The distress call came in over the weekend, prompting immediate deployment of emergency responders to No. 12 Aiyeola Street, off Governor Road, Molad Bus Stop, where the incident occurred.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a 56-year-old man had become trapped while working inside a well located at the rear of a bungalow housing eight rooms on a 648-square-metre property.
Through a coordinated rescue operation, the victim was safely brought to the surface alive, drawing praise from residents for the team’s professionalism and swift action.
Preliminary investigations point to possible negligence as the cause of the incident. In response, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, emphasized the need for proper safety measures.
She urged residents to inform the agency before engaging in high-risk tasks to enable the deployment of standby support and ensure safety compliance.“This incident underscores the importance of proactive safety measures in hazardous environments,” Adeseye stated.
