In a significant step toward enhancing access to justice and improving institutional efficiency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has fulfilled his promise to the Ministry of Justice with the formal presentation of seven brand-new operational buses.
The handover ceremony, held on Thursday at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, was facilitated through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
Speaking at the event, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, lauded the governor for his unwavering support of the justice sector.
“This is a significant boost to our operations. These buses will greatly ease transportation logistics for legal officers and prosecutors,” Pedro said.
“Two of the buses have been designated for transporting offenders to and from court, while another two will support the Special Taskforce on Human Trafficking.
”Pedro emphasized that the governor’s gesture reflects his broader vision of strengthening institutions that uphold the rule of law, noting that the buses represent not just a fulfilled promise, but a direct investment in justice delivery.
Also speaking, Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, Executive Secretary of LSSTF, highlighted that this was the first time the Fund had been directed by the governor to support the Ministry of Justice directly.
“This reflects the Governor’s deep commitment to strengthening both the justice and security sectors. These buses will undoubtedly enhance inter-agency coordination and improve daily legal operations,” Balogun remarked.
Controller George Daramola, of the Lagos Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, praised the donation, particularly the allocation of two buses to support the secure and efficient transportation of inmates.
“These buses will contribute to more organised and secure transportation for offenders, enhancing the safety of our personnel and enabling timely court appearances,” he said.
The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Hameed Oyenuga, further acknowledged the strategic importance of the buses in promoting mobility and access to justice, especially in underserved areas.
He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to deploying the vehicles for optimal impact.“This aligns perfectly with our broader goal of strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring that justice is accessible, timely, and efficient across the State,” Oyenuga stated.
The event underscores Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s continued prioritization of justice sector reforms and infrastructural support to drive efficient legal service delivery in Lagos.
