In a major breakthrough, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested seven suspects connected to the brutal murder of Barrister Bright Owhor, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants on July 6, 2025, in Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt.
Following the tragic killing of the 46-year-old lawyer, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a coordinated investigation involving ten days of rigorous intelligence gathering and technical surveillance.
The operation led to the identification and arrest of all individuals involved in the heinous crime.
The suspects—Prince Samuel (30), Daniel Godwin (25), Henry Peter (24), Godfrey Emmanuel a.k.a. Ibu (30), Chukwu Nneji (34), Justice Dimkpa (27), and Promise Wikere (22)—confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group.
Investigations revealed that they carried out the killing as part of an ongoing cult rivalry between the BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu.
According to police sources, Henry Peter, who supplied arms to the gang, was the one who pulled the trigger. The group also admitted to withdrawing funds from the victim’s bank account shortly after the murder.
Recovered from the suspects were four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, one MTN SIM card, a Mini Bus, and a Toyota Camry believed to have been used in the getaway.
Commending the swift and effective operation, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the dedication and skill of the officers involved.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal syndicates and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to curb cult-related violence and criminal activity across the state.
