The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against violent crime, arms proliferation, and organized criminal networks across the country.
At a press briefing today at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) base in Guzape, Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that operatives recovered 360 prohibited firearms, 5,952 rounds of live ammunition, and arrested 5,936 suspects for various offences nationwide.
According to Adejobi, the arrests included 715 armed robbery suspects, 306 kidnappers, 533 homicide suspects, 149 individuals for unlawful possession of firearms, 371 suspects for sexual-related offences, 590 cultists, and 3,272 others linked to diverse crimes.
He noted that the achievements were the result of intensified and intelligence-driven operations coordinated by the IRT.
Highlighting notable cases, Adejobi said operatives in Rivers State arrested one Jane Anodua, who was implicated in a child trafficking ring following a report by the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs.
“Her arrest led to the rescue of four children, two of whom were just 10 years old, safely reunited with their parents,” he explained.In another operation, the police apprehended Tanfa Binbol on July 13 in Taraba State, recovering three AK-47 rifles, five pistols, and a pump-action rifle. Similarly, on July 27, operatives arrested Jerauji Ibrahim in Adamawa State, recovering two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 19 rounds of ammunition.
Further recoveries, according to Adejobi, included a G-3 rifle, SMG rifle, revolvers, and locally fabricated weapons from the hideouts of gunrunners and bandits. “These coordinated crackdowns reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to safeguard lives and property while ensuring Nigerians live without fear of crime,” he stated.
