The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has stated that its timely intervention in two serious road accidents which occurred over the weekend at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, and at the Stadium Hotel area of Ojuelegba, Surulere.
At Olohunsogo, a Toyota Camry (FST 450 HG) rammed into a stationary Scania truck (LSR 243 YC), leaving the driver and a passenger critically injured.
Both victims were rescued by LASTMA operatives and taken to Ademola Hospital opposite Ijanikin Police Station for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that excessive speeding led to the crash.The driver of the stationary truck was arrested at the scene, with officers of the Ijanikin Police Division providing security backup.
LASTMA also ensured the quick removal of the wreckage to prevent traffic gridlock.In Ojuelegba, a white commercial Mazda bus (KRD 141 YH) lost control due to brake failure and crashed into the median on the BRT corridor.
The driver, who was found unconscious, and two passengers were rescued by LASTMA officers and rushed to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, all three survived.
One of the passengers, Mrs. Aina Kadri, confirmed that the vehicle’s brakes failed suddenly while in motion.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the swift collaboration between LASTMA officers and the Nigeria Police during the emergencies.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to effective rescue operations, efficient traffic management, and public safety.
He also cautioned motorists to obey speed limits and conduct regular vehicle maintenance, stressing that speeding and poor mechanical upkeep remain major causes of avoidable road accidents.
