The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ibrahim Abubakar Ka’oje, for allegedly stealing gold jewelry valued at ₦109,578,000 from a residence in Ka’oje town, Bagudo Local Government Area of the State.
According to the Command, the theft occurred between 2024 and 2025 when the suspect unlawfully trespassed into the residence of one Hajiya Rabi and carted away five gold necklaces, nine gold bangles, and four gold rings weighing about 782.7 grams.
The jewelry belonged to her daughter, Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello, and her siblings.The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, launched an investigation immediately after receiving the complaint on September 4, 2025.
Their efforts led to the arrest of the Correctional Service officer, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Further investigation revealed that the stolen items were sold to multiple buyers, including Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami and Hamza Ahmad of Sokoto State, Nasiru Sani of Birnin Kebbi, and Tasi’u Umar of Zauro town in Birnin Kebbi LGA.
Another accomplice, Ibrahim Usman Oroji, allegedly assisted in disposing of some of the jewelry, for which he received ₦2.5 million as his share of the proceeds.The police also uncovered that part of the stolen funds was concealed through the purchase of two plots of land in Birnin Kebbi metropolis, facilitated by one Mustapha Hassan and others still at large.
Recovered exhibits so far include two gold bangles, a Haojue motorcycle, an iPhone 16, a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, and a Samsung Flip device.
Commending the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the professionalism and intelligence-driven policing displayed by the SCID team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He urged officers to sustain the momentum by tracking down remaining suspects and recovering more stolen items.“The Command remains resolute in its war against violent crimes and is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Kebbi State,” CSP Nafiu Abubakar stated
