The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has debunked a viral video circulating on social media alleging that motorists were instructed to drive on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor from Ojota to Idi-Iroko along Ikorodu Road.
According to LASTMA, the claim is false and misleading, as no officer of the Authority ever gave such instruction.
The agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo explained that the Lagos State Government had only granted temporary approval for motorists to use the BRT lane at Odo-Iya Alaro and Eko Bridge, strictly as a palliative measure during ongoing rehabilitation at the Ifako-Ogudu Bridge, inbound Lagos.
He stressed that the concession does not apply to any part of the Ikorodu Road corridor, including Idi-Iroko.“Visual evidence from the same location revealed that the main carriageway at Idi-Iroko inward Anthony was free-flowing, exposing the allegation as fabricated and baseless,” Adebayo stated.
He warned motorists against spreading false information and reiterated that violators who encroach on the restricted BRT corridor would be arrested and prosecuted.
“The Authority remains committed to ensuring orderliness on Lagos roads and preserving the sanctity of BRT corridors which are crucial to the State’s transport system,” Adebayo added.
LASTMA urged members of the public to always verify information through official channels, including its toll-free hotline (080000527862), and to ignore unverified social media claims.
