The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspected cultists and armed robbers in a series of operations that also led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the operations, carried out by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and Safe Delta operatives under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, underscore the Command’s renewed drive against crime and criminality across the state.
On September 10, operatives of CP-SAT, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Oluwatobi Olugbemi, 29, a resident of Ibusa town, for alleged involvement in cult-related activities. A Beretta pistol loaded with ammunition was recovered from his residence during a search.
The suspect confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Arrow Barger.”
Similarly, Safe Delta operatives arrested suspected armed robbers in two separate incidents.
On September 9, officers on surveillance along DBS Road intercepted Raphael Chukwuemeka, 23, who was found with a cut-to-size double-barrel pistol and seven live cartridges after a street fight.
In another operation on September 10 at Head Bridge, Asaba, three suspects—Solomon Offor (22), Ifesinachi Nwankeze (19), and Ambrose Ugwuba (23)—were arrested after a stop-and-search revealed a locally-made gun, cartridges, and a dagger concealed in a bag.
SP Bright assured residents that the police remain unwavering in their resolve to rid the state of violent crimes. “These arrests reflect the Command’s proactive strategy in tackling cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion,” he stated.
