Enugu State Police Command has disclosed that it arrested 5,176 suspects for various crimes, including 98 for armed robbery, 87 for kidnapping, 50 for murder, 16 for unlawful possession of firearms, 11 for rape or defilement, 112 for cultism, and 4,792 for other serious offenses in the last six months.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa made this known during a press briefing in Enugu to mark six months in office since assuming duty on March 11, 2025.
He said the command’s strategy has been anchored on professionalism, proactivity, and people-friendly policing, in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s vision.
According to him, discipline, integrity, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for corruption remain the guiding principles of his leadership.
The CP highlighted notable breakthroughs within the period, including the incident-free security management of the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association Conference attended by over 20,000 participants; the restoration of peace in Isi-Uzo and Uzo-Uwani LGAs through joint security deployments; and a significant reduction in violent crimes linked to secessionist agitation via intelligence-led policing.
He further disclosed that 113 kidnapped or abducted victims were rescued, while 105 firearms, 271 rounds of ammunition, and 71 stolen vehicles were recovered during operations.
High-profile cases included the arrest of kidnappers involved in ritual killings, a teenager who kidnapped and murdered his cousin, two sisters who abducted their kinsman and extorted ₦10 million (later recovered in full), and suspects in cases of domestic homicide and human trafficking.
Expressing gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, the Governor of Enugu State, other security agencies, and law-abiding residents, CP Giwa assured that the Command is intensifying preparations for the Ember Months, a period often associated with increased criminal activities.
He urged continued collaboration with stakeholders to sustain peace and security across the state.
