Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested one Muhammad Wanzam, aged 50, in connection with the gruesome murder of a traveller, Alhaji Babuga Muhammad, in Bena District of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on October 16, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m., when the victim, who was travelling from Bena town to his village, Karaye, in Bagega District of Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, was reportedly attacked by a gang of hoodlums near a forest close to Malakachi village.
According to Kebbi police Command’s spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the assailants blocked the victim’s path, abducted him into the forest, and inflicted fatal machete cuts on his neck.Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Bena Division mobilized his team to the scene and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital, Bena, where he was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Wanzam, who allegedly confessed to conspiring with one Nuhu Bena, still at large, to attack the deceased without provocation.A search conducted in the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one Dane gun, two live ammunition, one magazine, and the cutlass reportedly used in committing the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello Sani, commended the DPO and his team for their professionalism and intelligence-driven efforts in tracking and apprehending the suspect.
He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for further investigation, including the arrest of the fleeing accomplice.“We commend the swift response of the Bena Division and assure the public that justice will be served.
The Command remains resolute in its commitment to protect the lives and property of all residents,” said Abubakar, quoting the Commissioner of Police.
The Commissioner further urged members of the public to always seek redress through lawful channels rather than resorting to self-help, while appealing for continued cooperation and timely reporting of suspicious activities to aid police operations.
