Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a renewed outbreak of communal violence that flared on Sunday evening.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Monday by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor. He said the governor has ordered immediate deployment of security agencies to the affected communities with a mandate to restore peace and prevent further escalation.
“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening,” the statement read. “Security agencies have been directed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay.”
The government urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as operations continue across the flashpoints.
Lamurde has witnessed recurring violence in 2025, particularly clashes involving the Chobo and Bachama communities, resulting in deaths, destruction of homes and mass displacement. The July and August incidents had earlier prompted curfew measures and heavy security deployment.
In response to the crisis, the Gongola People’s Forum recently submitted a detailed peace report to Governor Fintiri outlining root causes and recommending durable solutions. The governor has approved the formation of a technical committee to harmonise the proposals for quick implementation, with priority on resettling displaced persons, rebuilding affected areas and strengthening security to prevent further unrest.
