The Lagos State University (LASU) has expressed concern over the growing unauthorised use of its campuses and facilities for content creation, particularly by students, warning that some of the materials being produced are offensive and capable of damaging the institution’s reputation.
The university made this known in a statement released on Friday, December 12, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), Mrs Oluwayemis Thomas-Onashile.
According to the statement, while LASU supports creativity and responsible self-expression, it has become evident that certain content circulating on social media misrepresents the values of the institution and undermines its standing as a centre of learning and character development.
“While the University encourages creativity and responsible self-expression, some of the content being produced are offensive, inappropriate, and misrepresent the values and image of the institution,” Thomas-Onashile said.
“Such materials have the potential to cause reputational harm and undermine the integrity of the University as a respected citadel of learning and character development.”
She explained that, in a bid to preserve the sanctity of the university environment and safeguard its reputation, management has introduced new guidelines regulating cinematographic activities across all campuses.
Thomas-Onashile stated that all individuals, students, staff and members of the public, who intend to engage in any form of audiovisual recording within LASU premises must henceforth obtain prior approval from the Centre for Information and Public Relations.
“All cinematographic activities on any of the University’s campuses must receive prior approval from the Centre for Information and Public Relations,” she said.
“This includes the shooting or recording of skits, vox pops, short films, promotional content, or any other audiovisual material within University premises, hostels or associated facilities.”
The university also warned against the unauthorised use of drones within its environment, stressing that such actions pose security and privacy risks.
“The use of drones within the University environment without formal authorisation from the Security Department is strictly prohibited,” Thomas-Onashile added, noting that the directive is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the university community.
She said the management appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders in upholding the dignity and reputation of the institution.
“We are LASU. We are great,” the statement concluded.
