Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers in connection with multiple robbery incidents in an estate at Sangotedo, recovering firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items.

The suspects: Balogun Teslim, Suleman Balogun, and Peter Oluwagbemi, were apprehended following a distress call from residents over ongoing criminal activities in the area.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the swift response of operatives led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of critical evidence linked to the crimes.

“Upon receiving the distress call, operatives moved swiftly to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspects connected to the robbery incidents reported on April 11 and April 13, 2026,” she stated.

She disclosed that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made pistol loaded with six rounds of live 9mm ammunition, alongside other items believed to have been used in carrying out the attacks.

“Items recovered include one locally made firearm with live ammunition, two black face masks, a hammer, ropes, a large roll of cellophane tape, two black jackets, and a pair of pliers,” Adebisi said.

According to her, the nature of the items recovered suggests a well-planned operation by the suspects, aimed at subduing and robbing victims within the estate.

“These exhibits clearly indicate preparation for violent criminal activity and reinforce the seriousness of the offences committed,” she added.

Adebisi further revealed that the suspects were initially apprehended by members of the public, who accosted them before the arrival of the police.

“The suspects were mobbed by residents before the police intervened. Our operatives promptly rescued them and ensured they were taken to a medical facility for treatment,” she explained.

She strongly condemned acts of jungle justice, warning that such actions could obstruct proper investigation and prosecution.

“While we appreciate the vigilance of residents, the Command strongly advises against mob action. Suspects should always be handed over to the Police to ensure due process,” she cautioned.

The police spokesperson disclosed that two of the suspects have already confessed to their involvement in the crimes and provided useful information to investigators.

“During interrogation, two of the suspects admitted to the robbery incidents and identified one Kinsley, currently at large, as the leader of their gang,” she said.

She assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and dismantle the criminal network.

“We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspect and recover additional evidence that will aid prosecution,” Adebisi stated.

Reiterating the Command’s stance on violent crime, she said the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, remains committed to ensuring the safety of residents across the state.

“The Lagos State Police Command maintains zero tolerance for armed robbery and all forms of violent crime. We will continue to deploy resources to protect lives and property,” she said.

She also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly to security agencies.

“Timely and credible information from residents remains crucial to our success in combating crime. We encourage the public to make use of the Command’s emergency lines to report any suspicious activity,” Adebisi added.

The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing.
