The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has lauded the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) for its sustained commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of police families across the country.

The commendation came as the IGP received the POWA President, Mrs. Olufumilola Disu, and her delegation during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, the IGP described POWA as a critical support structure within the policing ecosystem, noting that the association has continued to play a pivotal role in strengthening family stability among officers.

“This visit is not only symbolic but a strong demonstration of solidarity and shared commitment to the welfare of police families,” the IGP said.

He emphasized that the demanding nature of police work often places significant strain on officers and their families, adding that POWA’s interventions have helped to cushion these challenges.

“Your contributions in nurturing the families of officers, supporting their children, and promoting peaceful home environments are invaluable to the overall effectiveness of the Force,” he stated.

The IGP further commended the association’s evolving programmes, particularly its renewed focus on health, empowerment, and social support initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for police households.

Highlighting POWA’s repositioning agenda, he noted that the planned nationwide free eye care initiative and expanded welfare programmes would have far-reaching impact.

“These initiatives reflect a forward-thinking approach to welfare, encompassing not just physical health, but also mental, emotional, and economic well-being,” he said.

He urged members of the association to deepen collaboration and sustain unity of purpose in order to strengthen existing welfare frameworks.

“I encourage you to continue to work together, build stronger networks, and expand your reach so that more police families can benefit from these laudable programmes,” the IGP added.

In her remarks, the POWA President reiterated the association’s commitment to supporting police families through targeted interventions, including healthcare outreach, youth development programmes, and economic empowerment initiatives.

She noted that the association remains focused on promoting national unity and enhancing the resilience of police families in the face of evolving socio-economic challenges.

The visit, according to police authorities, underscores ongoing efforts to reinforce welfare structures within the Force and ensure that officers and their families receive the support necessary to carry out their duties effectively.
