A Lagos-based content strategist, Boluwatife, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @Tife_badass, has accused officers of the Lagos State Police Command of unlawful arrest, false accusation, and extortion.
In a series of posts, he alleged that men from the Onikan Police Station Tactical Squad, led by a certain Squad Commander identified as “Ade,” harassed and threatened him during a late-night stop.
According to Boluwatife, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. while he and a friend were driving from Lekki towards Victoria Island for an activation event.
Near the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge roundabout, he said, several armed officers cocked their guns, stopped his vehicle, and accused him of being “the guy that kills police in Lekki.”
He said he was handcuffed, bundled into a Hilux van with his friend, while one officer drove his car to the station.
At the Onikan Police Station, Boluwatife alleged he was ordered to strip down, and despite a search showing nothing illegal in his possession, officers demanded ₦3 million for his release, later reducing the sum to ₦500,000.
He claimed they threatened to fabricate charges of fraud and cultism against him when he refused to pay. He credited his eventual release to the intervention of industry contact Bizzle Osikoya, questioning what would happen to “the common man that has nobody.”
