The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old notorious armed robber and hired assassin, John Samuel, in his hideout at Epe.
The suspect was tracked to his hideout in Epe and apprehended at about 2:00 p.m. on September 19, 2025, following diligent intelligence-led operations.
Samuel, who was released from prison barely a month ago after serving a six-year sentence for armed robbery, had on August 18, 2025, shot and wounded a businessman, Mr. Gbenga Obama, before robbing him of an expensive gold necklace and other valuables in broad daylight at Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja.
According to DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, Deputy PPRO of Lagos Command, “CCTV footage obtained from the August incident clearly captured the suspect shooting at the victim with an English pistol before dispossessing him of his jewelry, while his accomplice waited on a motorcycle.
The suspect later confessed to selling the stolen gold necklace for ₦4 million, far below its actual market value.”Oluseyi further revealed that the victim, who sustained gunshot injuries, has since been treated and discharged from hospital.
“The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of the gang, who will be prosecuted upon completion of investigations,” he assured.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh, commended the gallantry of the operatives that secured the arrest, noting that Lagos will remain unsafe for criminals.
He urged residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear, while warning criminally minded individuals that “Lagos has no hiding place for them.”
