The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal accident at Idi-Iroko, inward Ogolonto, along Ikorodu Road, which claimed one life and left two others severely injured.
According to preliminary investigations, a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus (registration number LND 490 SD), while struggling for right of way from the Agric axis, rammed into a fast-moving articulated truck (registration number EKY 121 YJ).
“Tragically, one passenger who was seated at the doorway of the Mazda bus was flung out on impact and crushed under the rear tyres of the truck, leading to instant death.
Two other passengers, a male and a female, sustained serious injuries but were quickly rescued by our operatives and taken to Ikorodu General Hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS),” said Taofeek Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA.
Adebayo noted that the remains of the deceased have since been released to his family by the Nigeria Police Force, while security personnel from Owutu Division provided cover during the rescue operations.
Both accidented vehicles were subsequently removed from the road to restore traffic flow.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to motorists to exercise caution and restraint, particularly on high-traffic corridors like Ikorodu Road.Adebayo further urged the public to make use of LASTMA’s multilingual toll-free hotline (080000527862) to report emergencies or seek assistance during traffic incidents.
