The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 22 year old Emmanuel Gambo, a second year Material and Metallurgical Engineering student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in connection with the fatal strangling of fellow 22 year old student, Deborah Sam Praise Ememem.
The victim’s body was discovered hidden under a hotel bed in Obukpa, Nsukka, on June 16, 2025 .Police say Gambo checked into the hotel on June 14 under a false identity and with an untraceable phone number.
After an initial payment of ₦5,000, a second sexual encounter turned violent when Deborah demanded an additional ₦15,000. That demand reportedly triggered the fatal confrontation.
Gambo allegedly strangled her in the early hours of June 15, wrapped her body in a towel and curtain, and concealed it beneath the bed. Hotel staff discovered the victim the following morning after noticing a foul odour.
Following weeks of intelligence-driven investigation, Gambo was arrested on July 2 at his lodge in Nsukka. He reportedly confessed during interrogation and led detectives to recover key evidence, including Deborah’s iPhone, a bottle of red wine, and other personal effects he had discarded from the hotel room.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa commended the swift work of the CID and assured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to justice, urging parents to monitor their children and warning youths against reckless behavior.
