Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have recovered a stolen motorcycle from a man posing as a soldier, who fled the scene upon sighting the victim and law enforcement officers.
The suspect, popularly known in the area as “Away,” had on Saturday afternoon hired a commercial motorcyclist, Henry, to transport him across several locations before returning to Command Road, Ayobo, for an agreed fare of ₦8,000.
However, around 10:00 p.m., while en route to Ayobo, the suspect forcefully took control of the motorcycle under the guise of trying to evade police arrest.
According to reports, at Iyana Iba New Road, the suspect instructed Henry to withdraw money for him at a POS terminal and handed him a fake ATM card. While the rider was with the POS attendant, the suspect absconded with the motorcycle.
Determined to recover his property, Henry traced the suspect on Monday to the First Gate area in Igbo–Elerin along LASU–Iyana Iba Road, where he spotted him with the stolen bike. F
ortunately, an RRS patrol team was nearby and responded swiftly. Upon sighting Henry and the officers, the suspect—still dressed in military attire—abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene.
The recovered motorcycle has since been returned to its rightful owner, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.
