The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has disclosed that 10,000 households in Akilo Community and its environs wil benefit from potable water distribution following the completion of the rehabilitation of the Akilo Waterworks in Ikeja.
LWC Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, represented by the Director of Community Commercial and Customer Relations, Mrs. Adepeju Isola, disclosed that water supply will resume immediately, with flexible service options including billing, metering, and kiosks.
He urged residents to connect to the system and promptly report cases of burst pipes, vandalism, or illegal connections.
The State Programme Lead of WaterAid, Dr. Adebayo Alao, assured residents of the sustainability of the project, noting that regular bill payments are essential to ensure uninterrupted service.
“I am sure you would not be happy if, after three or six months, you discover no more water production. Therefore, you should pay your bills for the system to continue running,” he emphasised.
Also in attendance, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Lagos Water Regulatory Commission, Mr. Babatunde Olowu, pledged fair regulation and monitoring.
LWC Regional Business Manager, Mrs. Yetunde Odebunmi, announced that a 24-hour test production would begin on Monday, September 1, 2025, advising residents not to consume water within the first 48 hours of the test run.
Community Chairman, Pastor Ewuosho, thanked the government and partners for the intervention and urged residents, especially kiosk operators, to take the opportunity seriously.
The rehabilitation project, which began in February 2025 with the support of WaterAid Nigeria, is scheduled for recommissioning next month.
