Three suspects have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command in connection with the alleged killing and robbery of a family of six at Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects; Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village, were arrested following investigations into the September 22, 2026 attack on the family of Ifeanyi Chukwu.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly invaded the residence of Chukwu, his wife and their four children while armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
The command said the suspects robbed the family of N200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine. It added that Hammed Akinbami allegedly shot Chukwu, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward allegedly attacked his wife, hitting her on the head.
The police further alleged that the suspects tied two of the children by their hands and legs before throwing them into a nearby river. The remaining members of the family were also allegedly killed, with their bodies dumped in the same river.
The arrests followed credible intelligence received by the command on October 2, 2026, which prompted detectives to commence investigations. The police said the suspects subsequently confessed to their alleged involvement during interrogation.
Items recovered from the suspects include the family’s Boxer motorcycle, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club allegedly used during the attack. The police said the remains of the wife had been recovered, while efforts were ongoing to recover the remains of the other victims.
The suspects and the case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation and vowed that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
