Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has intensified efforts to secure improved operational funding for the Nigeria Police Force as part of broader measures aimed at strengthening internal security and enhancing policing efficiency across the country.
    ‎
‎The IGP renewed the appeal during a strategic meeting with the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, in Abuja, where discussions centred on the urgent need for timely release of approved funds to support police operations and upcoming electoral duties.
    ‎
‎Speaking during the engagement, IGP Disu stressed that adequate funding remained critical to the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to effectively tackle the country’s growing security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, communal violence, and attacks on critical national infrastructure.
    ‎
‎The police boss also highlighted the importance of sustained financial support ahead of the forthcoming off-season governorship elections scheduled for June and August 2026, noting that the Force would play a pivotal role in ensuring peaceful, credible, and secure electoral processes.
    ‎
‎According to him, improved funding would enhance operational readiness, logistics deployment, intelligence gathering, personnel welfare, and other critical policing responsibilities necessary for maintaining law and order nationwide.
    ‎
‎Responding, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr Ogunjimi, reportedly assured the Inspector-General of the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the prompt release of approved funds to the Nigeria Police Force.
    ‎
‎He acknowledged the enormous responsibility placed on the Police in addressing the nation’s security concerns and maintaining democratic stability, stressing that the Force required adequate institutional support to discharge its constitutional responsibilities effectively and professionally.
    ‎
‎“The role of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing the nation’s security challenges is enormous and requires adequate support to enable the Force discharge its responsibilities effectively and professionally,” Ogunjimi stated.
    ‎
‎He further assured that the Federal Government recognised the strategic importance of adequately funding security agencies, particularly in view of preparations for the off-season governorship elections later in the year.
    ‎
‎The Accountant-General also urged sustained engagement between the police leadership and the Federal Ministry of Finance to facilitate the release of outstanding funds owed to the Force, warning that inadequate funding could negatively affect critical security operations across the country.
    ‎
‎IGP Disu, while appreciating the assurances, reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to improving national security and sustaining proactive policing strategies aimed at protecting lives, property, and democratic institutions.
    ‎
‎He maintained that the Force remained committed to deepening professionalism, strengthening operational effectiveness, and ensuring adequate deployment of personnel and resources to areas of critical national need.
