Ahead of the launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit in Lagos State, the Lagos State Police Command has received fresh operational support from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund aimed at enhancing personnel safety, operational efficiency, and rapid response capabilities.
The operational assets, donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), include two operational vehicles, 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests, and 50 ballistic shields for the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Abimbola Adebisi in a statement on Saturday said the initiative forms part of ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, geared towards strengthening proactive policing and improving emergency response mechanisms across the country.
Adebisi said the support would significantly strengthen the Command’s operational readiness in tackling violent crimes and emergencies across the state.
According to the statement, the operational assets were presented on behalf of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund by its Executive Secretary, Ayodele Ogunsan, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting security agencies in Lagos State.
“He reiterated the continued commitment of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund towards supporting security agencies in the State through the provision of critical operational equipment and logistics necessary for efficient policing and public safety,” SP Adebisi stated.
Receiving the equipment, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for what he described as sustained support towards strengthening security architecture in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police expressed profound appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Security Trust Fund for their sustained support towards strengthening the security architecture in Lagos State,” Adebisi said.
The police spokesperson noted that the CP described the intervention as timely and strategic, especially as preparations intensify for the official launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit.
“He stated that the support will significantly boost the operational readiness of the Violent Crime Response Unit and further enhance the Command’s capacity in combating violent crimes, ensuring rapid response to emergencies, and safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State,” the statement added.
Adebisi further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to effective policing, proactive crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to effective policing, proactive crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force,” she quoted the CP as saying.
The Violent Crime Response Unit is expected to strengthen rapid intervention capabilities of the Lagos State Police Command in addressing violent crimes, distress calls, and other emerging security threats across the state.
