Barely a week after the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered a suspected fake fruit juice factory in Badagry, Lagos, the Badagry Division of the Lagos State Police Command has raided an alleged illegal alcohol production facility in Iyafin, arresting a 48-year-old man suspected of producing unapproved alcoholic drinks.
The suspect, identified as Emeka Anieba, a native of Anambra State, was allegedly involved in the production and packaging of fake and unapproved alcoholic drinks branded as Flamigo.
According to Badagry Today, a micro news blog, in a report published on Thursday, the police operation was carried out on Wednesday night following intelligence on suspected illegal alcohol production in the area.
The raid was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Badagry Police Division, CSP Jude Nwokolo, and his team.
The report said police operatives recovered various items allegedly used in the production and packaging of the alcoholic drinks during the operation.
The development has raised fresh concerns over the production and distribution of unregulated alcoholic beverages, particularly products manufactured without the required approvals and in breach of safety standards.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigation into the alleged illegal production activity continues.
The Lagos State Police Command had yet to comment on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
