The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government has flagged off the construction of a road and drainage project at RST Apena Close, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The project comprises the construction of an interlocking road, one-sided drainage, a culvert, kerbs and the installation of streetlights. It is expected to be completed within six weeks by RMB Construction Engineering Company Limited under the supervision of the council’s Works and Infrastructure Department.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), said the project forms part of his administration’s resolve to deliver infrastructure that directly addresses the needs of residents.

“This project is another bold step in our unwavering commitment to providing quality infrastructure that will improve the lives of our people, enhance environmental sustainability and promote socio-economic development within our Local Government,” Dauda stated in a Facebook post on Friday.

He said the project would improve access to the area, reduce flooding, enhance security through the installation of streetlights and improve the overall outlook of the community.

“This intervention will not only improve access and ease of movement but will also help curb flooding, improve security through the installation of streetlights and enhance the overall outlook of the area,” he said.

Dauda reiterated that his administration would continue to prioritise projects aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy to residents across the local government.

“As I have consistently maintained, my administration remains focused on delivering the dividends of democracy through impactful projects that address the needs of our communities,” he added.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore; the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo; the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Rasheed Adisa Ogunseye; the Majority Leader, Hon. Ganiu Lawal; the Councillor representing Ward E, Hon. Babatunde Folami; the Council Engineer; Supervisory Councillors; Special Advisers; the Head of Budget and Planning, Dr. Anita Rasak; the Regent of Ikeja, Chief Isiaka Apena; and other stakeholders.

The council chairman expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, political leaders and residents for their continued support, assuring them that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and to the highest standard.

“I assure everyone that this project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe and to the highest standard. Together, we will continue to build an Ikeja that is modern, resilient and truly works for all,” Dauda said.
