The Lagos State Government has sealed more than 20 properties in Ikeja Local Government Area over various physical planning violations as part of efforts to enforce compliance with the state’s planning regulations and promote orderly urban development.

The enforcement exercise was carried out by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) and led by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Olayinka Wasiu, alongside the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, and other senior officials of the authority.

The affected properties, which include residential buildings, uncompleted structures and developments with unauthorised extensions, were found to be in breach of the Lagos State Physical Planning Law.

Speaking during the exercise, Wasiu said the operation was aimed at preventing building collapse, ensuring public safety and strengthening compliance with planning regulations across the state.

“The enforcement action is a proactive measure to prevent building collapse, promote orderly physical development and ensure strict compliance with the Lagos State Physical Planning Law,” he said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property by enforcing planning standards designed to create a safe, resilient and sustainable built environment.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the affected property owners had earlier been served with contravention notices outlining the steps required to regularise their developments before enforcement became necessary.

“We served contravention notices on the affected property owners, clearly stating the actions required to regularise their developments before the enforcement exercise was carried out,” Wasiu said.

He urged developers and property owners to obtain the appropriate planning permits and approvals before commencing construction or undertaking structural alterations, stressing that compliance with planning regulations remains essential for sustainable urban development.

Wasiu also disclosed that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, through LASPPPA, would continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement operations across Lagos to curb illegal developments and preserve the integrity of the state’s built environment.

“The Authority will continue to strengthen monitoring and enforcement across the state to discourage illegal developments and ensure an orderly, safe and legally compliant physical environment in line with the Lagos State Government’s vision of a modern and sustainable megacity,” he added.
