A tragic road accident has claimed eight lives at Atura Bus Stop, inbound Badagry, on the Lagos-Badagry Highway.
The accident involved a 16-seater commercial Mazda bus and a DAF truck.
According to reports, the commercial bus was speeding when it lost control and collided with the truck, resulting in the instant death of eight passengers, including the driver and conductor.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigeria Police, and Nigerian Army, responded swiftly to the accident scene.
Eight surviving passengers were extracted and evacuated to the General Hospital in Badagry for medical attention.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended his condolences to the bereaved families and warned commercial and heavy-duty vehicle operators against excessive speeding.
The accident highlights the need for road users to exercise caution and adhere to safety protocols.
LASTMA has reiterated its commitment to managing emergencies and saving lives, and has appealed to all road users to demonstrate civic responsibility to prevent such tragedies.
