At least eight passengers narrowly escaped death on Monday following a serious auto crash involving a commercial bus and a private vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
The accident, which occurred around 1:00 p.m. near Adekunle Junction, inward Lagos Island, left several passengers with varying degrees of injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded in the incident.
Eyewitnesses said the crash happened when the commercial bus, popularly known as Danfo, rammed into a Toyota Camry from behind while on top speed, causing the bus to somersault multiple times with passengers on board.
According to one of the rescuers who witnessed the crash and requested to remain unanimous said: “The bus hit the Camry from behind at high speed and lost control. It somersaulted several times.
It was terrifying to watch.”Emergency responders, including operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), personnel from the Adekunle Police Division, and officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) as well as Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), swiftly arrived at the scene to assist the victims and control of traffic in the area.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was also deployed, and all injured passengers, including the driver, received prompt first aid at the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
By 3:30 p.m., the accident scene had been cleared, and normal traffic flow was restored on the bridge.
Monday’s incident comes just days after a similar accident occurred along the Badagry axis of the state, where eight passengers tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries.
Authorities are once again urging motorists to observe traffic regulations and maintain safe driving practices to prevent avoidable tragedies on the road.
