Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on all eligible voters in the state to participate actively in the local government elections scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, July 12, 2025.
In a statement personally signed by the Governor, he emphasized the critical role of local governments in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development, urging Lagosians to see the exercise as both a civic duty and an opportunity to shape leadership at the community level.
“The local government is the closest tier of government to the people and plays a vital role in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“This election offers Lagosians an opportunity to shape the leadership of their local councils by voting for Chairmen and Councilors who will represent their interests and drive development at the community level.
”Governor Sanwo-Olu reminded residents that participating in the electoral process is a constitutional right and a powerful tool for strengthening democracy.
He appealed to voters to turn out peacefully, cast their votes, and uphold democratic values.“To ensure a safe, orderly, and credible election, I have directed that security agencies be strategically deployed across all polling units and communities,” he stated, assuring that law enforcement officials would be on ground to protect voters, electoral officials, and election materials.
He also disclosed that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had assured him of its preparedness to conduct free and fair elections.
The Governor further appealed to political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the rule of law. He urged youths, in particular, to avoid violence and act as ambassadors of democracy.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparent and credible elections, Sanwo-Olu said, “Let us show the world once again that Lagos stands for peace, progress, and participatory governance.”
