The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has suffered a major setback as two serving senators — Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central) — have formally resigned from the party, citing deepening internal crises and unresolved legal disputes at the national level.
Senator Francis Fadahunsi, a two-term lawmaker and strong ally of Governor Ademola Adeleke, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 12, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area.
He attributed his decision to “irreparable and irreconcilable differences” within the party as well as protracted legal battles following the 2023 general elections.
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedeviled the party at the national level,” his letter stated.
Shortly after Fadahunsi’s exit, Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, also tendered his resignation.
In a letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 3, Oke-Ejigbo in Ila-Orangun, Fadeyi echoed similar concerns about the party’s worsening internal discord.
He wrote: “Irreconcilable differences and irreparable divisions that have emerged, along with court cases and counter court cases in the last three years, have created factions in the party at the national level.
I am therefore resigning my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”Both senators emphasized that their decisions followed wide consultations with their political allies, family members, and supporters.
The twin resignations mark a significant blow to the PDP’s standing in Osun State, especially given the stature of both lawmakers and their previous alignment with the state governor.
Political observers are watching closely for what the next moves of the senators will be — and what this portends for the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections
