As part of its broader strategy to reduce traffic congestion and promote a structured parking culture, the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has concluded plans to begin strict enforcement of parking regulations across event centres, hotels, and nightclubs operating without valid parking permits in the State.
The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, gave the hint today, emphasizing that all hospitality businesses are legally required to obtain valid parking permits in accordance with the Lagos State Parking Authority Law.
She described parking compliance as a non-negotiable component of urban traffic and safety management. “Proper parking regulation is crucial to traffic flow and public safety, especially in densely populated areas with high vehicular and pedestrian activity,” Adelabu stated.
According to Sunday Dunkwu, Head, Public Affairs, Lagos State Parking Authority, several engagements and sensitization efforts had been held with key stakeholders in the hospitality sector, including associations representing hotels, nightclubs, and event centres.
Despite these initiatives, he noted that a number of operators remain in violation of the State’s parking guidelines.“This announcement serves as a final warning,” Dunkwu stated.
“LASPA will soon launch a statewide enforcement exercise, and any facility found operating without the required parking permit will be sanctioned accordingly.”
He reaffirmed the Authority’s determination to restore order on Lagos roads and ensure that commercial operations, particularly in the hospitality industry, do not contribute to the worsening of traffic and safety issues through poor parking practices.
