The Ogun State Government has dismissed claims by former Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, that Governor Dapo Abiodun is targeting him with plans to demolish his Sagamu residence and hotels.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the government described Daniel’s allegations as “a barefaced lie,” insisting that the notices served on his properties were part of a routine urban renewal audit in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode Government Reserved Areas (GRAs).
According to Akinmade, the ongoing exercise involves verifying the permit status of all developments within the designated areas, including houses, schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings.
“Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s building happens to be within the Sagamu GRA and among those served notices as required under the Town Planning Law and Regulation of Ogun State. Many other structures were also similarly served,” he said.
He noted that the exercise is statutory, continuous, and not targeted at any individual, stressing that Daniel should simply present his planning permit and land title for verification.
“No one is bigger than the State. Since his referenced buildings must have conformed with government regulations, there should not be any problem.
“If anyone is after Senator Gbenga Daniel, it is certainly not the Governor of Ogun State,” Akinmade stated.
