The Lagos State Government has sealed an estate in Lekki for allegedly discharging raw sewage into public drains, a move officials say posed a serious risk to public health.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post on X on Saturday, stating that the enforcement was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) after complaints from residents in the area.
According to Wahab, Myca 7 Court in Van Daniel Estate, Off Orchid Road, was shut down for “deliberate discharge of sewage into the public drains via pumping machine,” which he described as a public nuisance, an act of environmental pollution, and a danger to human life.
He warned that all forms of environmental violations will attract strict sanctions and possible prosecution.
