The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, has urged party members and supporters to disregard a statement credited to the party’s former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, allegedly directing them to vote for another party in the August 16, 2025 bye-election.
Describing the directive as “misleading, mischievous and delusional,” Abure accused Obi of attempting to undermine the party, alleging that he has been at the center of internal crises within the Labour Party.
“Nigerians should not forget in a hurry that it was Peter Obi who created the crisis in the Labour Party which he is now citing as a reason why people should not vote for the party,” Abure stated.
Reaffirming that Labour Party candidates are fully on the ballot for the polls, Abure called on members to remain focused and committed. “We have done everything within the law to ensure our candidates participate in the bye-election and all future elections,” he said, adding that the party remains determined to secure victory despite attempts to “strangulate” it.
