The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area, assuring residents that strategic traffic management plans have been put in place to minimize disruptions.

According to the Director, Public Affairs & Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the second phase of works, which involves the restoration of expansion joints inbound Lagos Island, will run from Tuesday, August 19, 2025, to Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

“We want Lagosians to know that this rehabilitation is crucial for their safety and the long-term durability of the bridge,” said Adebayo.

He explained that motorists from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island would be diverted into a single lane at the work zone, with access restored shortly after the construction site.

He added that alternative routes have been carefully mapped out, including Ojota Slip Road, Ikorodu Road, Gbagada, the Third Mainland Bridge, and Funsho Williams Avenue.

He emphasized that LASTMA officers have been strategically deployed across affected corridors to maintain traffic flow and enforce discipline. “Our officers will be on the ground throughout the period to ensure compliance, prevent gridlocks, and swiftly address emergencies,” Adebayo said, urging motorists to obey traffic advisories.

The LASTMA spokesperson appealed to residents for patience and civic responsibility, noting that towing trucks and other support infrastructure have been stationed at critical points.

“We urge all motorists to exercise restraint and discipline. Anyone caught driving against traffic or engaging in reckless conduct will be prosecuted before the Mobile Court,” he warned.

Adebayo also praised the cooperation of Lagosians during the first phase of the bridge rehabilitation and encouraged them to sustain the same spirit. “The partial closure is a temporary sacrifice for a long-term benefit.

We urge members of the public to promptly report emergencies via LASTMA’s hotline 080000527862 for immediate intervention,” he said.
