Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved a comprehensive retraining programme for senior officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), aimed at reinforcing leadership competence and aligning the agency with global best practices.
The 5-day executive leadership and capacity development programme, which commenced in Oshodi, is tailored for 50 zonal heads and a total of 82 principal officers of the agency.
This followed the Governor’s earlier directive at the beginning of 2025 that facilitated the retraining of over 3,000 frontline personnel across LASTMA.
Speaking on the initiative, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, said the retraining would equip the agency’s leadership with modern managerial skills, ethical standards, and strategies needed to address Lagos’ complex traffic challenges.
“The programme is designed to enhance ethical stewardship, strategic foresight, incident management, conflict resolution, effective communication, and stress management. It is expected to strengthen institutional discipline, efficiency, and public confidence in LASTMA’s mandate,” Adebayo stated.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the retraining as a deliberate investment in the agency’s professional capital, adding that it would boost operational coordination and efficiency.
Similarly, the agency’s Director of Training and Human Capacity Development, Mr. Akinpelu Ayuba, stressed that continuous retraining remains essential for improved service delivery and traffic safety.
The Command urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, show civility in their interactions with officers, and report emergencies through LASTMA’s multilingual toll-free hotline: 080000527862, available in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin.
