The Nigeria Police Force, through its National Central Bureau (NCB) of INTERPOL, has arrested and repatriated a notorious Beninese fugitive, Sunday Kotin, to authorities in Benin Republic.
Kotin, wanted for his role in inter-border armed banditry, smuggling of firearms and ammunition, cattle rustling, and drug trafficking, had fled to Nigeria to evade justice after seven members of his criminal syndicate were arrested and are currently standing trial in Benin Republic.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the NPF–NCB conducted a discreet operation that led to his arrest in Idi Iroko Town, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Following interrogation on his cross-border criminal activities, Kotin was formally handed over to officials of NCB Cotonou.
Confirming the development, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ben Hundeyin, stated:“The successful arrest and handover of this fugitive demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to international cooperation in tackling transnational crimes.
Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for criminals, no matter how highly placed or networked they may be.
”The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun lauded the professionalism of the operatives and reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to regional security.
“We remain resolute in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, upholding the rule of law, and working with our international partners to ensure peace, security, and justice,” he assured.
