The Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned that it will not tolerate crowd renting and street demonstrations at its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, stressing that such theatrics will not influence its decisions or operations.
According PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission, however, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that police officers are held accountable for their actions and inactions, urging aggrieved individuals or groups with genuine complaints of police misconduct to submit formal petitions for fair and transparent consideration.
Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu issued the warning after a rented crowd reportedly stormed the PSC headquarters, demanding the setting up of a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) within 48 hours to probe alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, robbery, and terrorism involving the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of Shendam Division, Plateau State.
Argungu described the protest as an abuse of privilege, noting that while citizens have the right to seek redress, resorting to crowd renting to magnify grievances is unacceptable.“The Commission will not be intimidated by hired demonstrators. Its headquarters is not an arena for protests.
Aggrieved parties are advised to follow due process and laid-down procedures in the pursuit of their grievances,” said Argungu.He further advised the complainants to have first reported their allegations to the Plateau State Commissioner of Police before besieging the Commission’s office with placard-carrying protesters.
The group had alleged that on October 22 and 23, 2025, some hoodlums, allegedly backed by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, including the DPO of Shendam, Bashiru Maisule, the DCO, Jacob Ogbolu, and about 100 policemen, attacked their community, destroyed property, and robbed residents.
The PSC has since written to the officers named in the petition, directing them to respond to the allegations.Argungu assured that the Commission would thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served.
