The Enugu State Police Command has busted an interstate vehicle theft syndicate, arrested suspects and recovered two Mack trucks and a Toyota Highlander SUV stolen from different states during separate operations within the state.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2026.

According to Ndukwe, operatives attached to the Emene Police Division, acting on credible intelligence recovered two stolen Mack trucks on December 22, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m.

He said the operatives swiftly mobilised to a location in Emene, Enugu, where they recovered a yellow Mack truck conveying a 40-foot container and another white Mack truck without a registration number.

“The trucks were earlier stolen from Aba, Abia State, and taken to Enugu to be sold before they were recovered,” Ndukwe said.

He added that two male suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. They were identified as Okenwa Chinedu, 33, who allegedly conveyed the stolen trucks to Enugu, and Adaka Emmanuel, 28, who reportedly intended to purchase one of the vehicles.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Okenwa is a Mack truck mechanic residing in Aba, Abia State, while Adaka is a scrap dealer,” the police spokesperson stated.

He noted that the owners of the recovered trucks have since identified them, while further discreet investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

In a related development, Ndukwe said operatives of the Uwani Police Division on December 17, 2025, at about 6:40 p.m., arrested a male suspect, Emmanuel Chukwu, while attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander SUV at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu.

“The recovered ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number AGL 929 FX was reportedly stolen from Isolo, Lagos State,” he said.

Ndukwe disclosed that the suspect and the recovered vehicle had been transferred to the police division in Lagos State where the case was initially reported, for further investigation and prosecution.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, praised their professionalism, vigilance and swift response to credible information.

He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining safety and security in the new year, while urging members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely information and promptly reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities.
